Arranging an assessment
Outpatient appointments are booked through the hospital on the numbers below; international patients can ask for Michael Yu. Bring photographs of your face from three and five years ago if you have them, because they show how the mouth has changed and are more useful than any description. Bring a list of anything that has been injected and when, and be ready to describe how much sun protection your lips actually get on an ordinary day.
What a good assessment includes
A judgement about which contributor produced the lines and how that was decided, an examination of the lip surface itself, a review of everything that has been applied or injected and when, an honest statement about whether the answer is treatment at all, and a clear account of what each proposed step would change and what it would not. You should leave able to say which contributor is being treated and what maintenance will involve.
Asking about the plan
Ask which contributor has been identified and how. Ask what each proposed treatment addresses, how long its effect lasts, what would make it wrong for your mouth, and what it does not change. Ask specifically about the lip border and how many treatments of that area the clinician performs, because it is an area where experience matters more than in most. Ask too about anything unsuitable in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Before you commit
No decision needs to be made at the first appointment, and no package should be sold before an assessment is complete. Take the plan away, read it against the guides on this site, and come back with questions. A promise that the lines will be erased, or a discount that expires, is information about the clinic rather than about your mouth.
